A Bit About Me

Welcome to a journey that began in the hallowed halls of a college classroom in 1996, where a freshman's curiosity blossomed into a lifelong passion for photography. It was here that I first grasped the camera and learned the art of capturing the world through my unique lens. Drawn irresistibly to landscape photography, I reveled in the challenge of seizing profound moments and evoking deep emotions through my images. Yet, as often happens, life's twists and turns led me away from this early love.

Fast forward to 2009, a year that tested my resilience like no other. After being medically retired from the Army due to injuries sustained in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and grappling with my wife's battle against a rare cancer, I found myself lost in a maelstrom of chaos and despair. In these darkest hours, a chance encounter with a stranger's simple act of photography in downtown Anchorage, Alaska, reignited the spark I thought I had lost. The memory of the peace and fulfillment I once found behind the lens surged back, prompting an impromptu visit to Stuart’s Photography Shop where I embraced my destiny with a new Canon DSLR in hand.

This camera was not just a tool, but a gateway to rediscovering joy and hope. It marked the beginning of a transformative journey from destruction to creation, from despair to hope. Embracing both my past training in film and the burgeoning world of digital photography at the Art Institute of Indianapolis, I forged a unique style that distinguishes my work in an ever-competitive field. This fusion of old and new has not only defined my artistic expression but also restored my purpose and confidence.

As a wounded warrior, photography has given me more than just a profession; it has provided a means to communicate my perspective to the world, a perspective shaped by adversity, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of beauty. My camera is my companion, my tool, and my voice. It allows me to capture not just images, but stories, emotions, and moments that speak of strength, hope, and the indomitable human spirit.

I invite you to explore my world through my lens. May my photographs inspire and move you, just as the journey of creating them has transformed me. Together, let’s discover the extraordinary in the ordinary, and find the light even in the darkest of times.
