We are doing it again! It sounds crazy I know, but with matching funds in hand and partnerships with the Wheelchair Foundation & Heather Thomson in place; we couldn't turn our back on the kids and people of Nepal.
In February 2018; I was preparing for an expedition to Nepal, for which I was one of the photographers. I was achieving so many dreams and goals that I should have been on cloud nine, but the recent loss of my best friend to veteran suicide had me spiraling backwards.
In an attempt to turn the adversity I was facing into something positive, I committed to bringing eight wheelchairs to Nepal for the kids who needed them at the Center for Disabled Children Assistance (CDCA). I was crazy busy preparing for the trip and had no idea how I was going to do it, so I called my expedition leader, Heather Thomson. She told me she’s got my back and to run with it, so I did. With Heather’s help I was able to raise all the money needed for the wheelchairs within 10 days and we delivered them in April 2018. That act of kindness was the spark that started a movement.
That delivery inspired the founder of the CDCA, Dendi Sherpa, to start a wheelchair repair center, which in-turn inspired me to once again help provide wheelchairs. This time, I partnered with the Wheelchair Foundation and within 30 days we raised enough money to send 200 wheelchairs to Nepal. All 200 wheelchairs arrived on Labor Day weekend 2020, despite the global pandemic. Seeing all the lives that have changed from this latest delivery has inspired me to do it again.
It is a whole lot of money to raise, but with the community that I have been lucky enough to be apart of on and off of social media, I know we can make this gift of mobility a reality. We need to raise a total of $21,000.00 to send another 200 wheelchairs to the Center of Disabled Children Assitance in Kathmandu, Nepal.
