What a week it’s been; I literally can’t believe we are already announcing another Hand Up Hero. This past St. Patrick’s Day, my wife and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary and I found myself thinking a whole lot about how her unconditional love has impacted my life for the better. In today’s world we don’t do a good of celebrating the commitment it takes to make a marriage work. So when I read the short paragraph that was written about this weeks hero, I instantly knew that their story needed be highlighted and celebrated.
This week’s hero is Chris Brunner. Chris was nominated by his fiancé Emma, who in her own right is a Hand Up Hero to me. Emma wrote:
“My name is Emma and I'm nominating my fiancé, Chris Brunner, for this because he is my hero. I am a survivor of domestic violence and abuse alongside my children. Despite being a single, primary custodial parent of four beautiful children, Chris took me, my three girls, and rescued us from an extremely abusive situation. He takes care of us in every way with kindness, love, and compassion, every single day. I'm so grateful that I go to bed every night in the safest place in the world. In the arms of the man that I adore!”
Chris and Emma I am so glad that you found each other and I hope you both know how lucky and rare it is to have found that love that Emma so eloquently described. Celebrate it! Treasure it! Put in the work and always make each other a priority. Your canvas is on the way and I can only hope that it inspires the both of you on your down and/or off days in same the same that you will inspire others by sharing this story of hope, resilience, love, and commitment.
