This week’s Hand Up Hero is Donald Jarvis. Donald is a disabled combat veteran from the Post 9/11 generation. He spent 7 years in the Massachusetts Army National Guard, although his service did not end there. He has gone on to do a number of amazing things in support of his local community and the Veteran community that he so dearly loves.
He is the founder of Operation Warming Hearts, a nonprofit that collaborates and partners with local groups, businesses, and community organizations. He supports individuals in half-way house programs, specifically with people who are suffering from drug and alcohol abuse. He can also regularly be found serving the homeless and working in underserved communities.
What Donald has found is that in serving others he has been able to refocus the parts of him, that some would call broke, and use to them as means to lift others. That is the very definition of giving a Hand Up and why we created the program to highlight people like Donald. You can learn more about Donald and all the things he is involved at his website https://donaldjarvis.com. You can read his book by following the link: “Mocha, The Superhero Service Dog”.
